The chilly winter months are upon us in full swing, and there is nothing that quite staves off the cold better than a nice cup of hot tea. However, you can bring this experience to the next level with some bonus health benefits by creating a cannabis-fused hot beverage. While you can pick up some pre-made or pre-infused from our greenleaf dispensary in Hanover, MI, it is a fairly simple process to make at home. Keep reading to learn how!
Cannabis Tea Recipe
While making cannabis-infused tea is a little more involved than just steeping cannabis leaves in tea, it is still relatively simple. Check out this recipe below!
Equipment:
- Tea bags
- Fine strainer or cheesecloth
Ingredients:
- 1 gram of your favorite ground cannabis
- 1 tbsp of coconut oil or unsalted butter
- 4 cups of water
- Any of your favorite additives, such as milk, sugar, honey, cinnamon, etc.
With this ingredient list, you should be able to make about three or four cups of tea, which is plenty to enjoy in one sitting or share with a friend or family member. The best part is that it is fairly basic and you can make modifications according to your own tastes or preferences. For example, you can mix in a bit of milk or cream or stir in a spoonful of honey — the choice is totally yours!
To begin, follow these six simple steps:
Step 1: Decarboxylate the Cannabis
Decarboxylation is the name for the process that is used to activate the cannabinoids, such as THC or CBD, inside of cannabis. If you just try to stick raw leaves into your tea or bake it directly into your brownie batter, unfortunately, it isn’t going to do much good. Once you have properly undergone the decarboxylation process and heated your cannabis accordingly, you can move onto step two!
Step 2: Get Boiling
In a pot or tea kettle, begin to boil the water (4 cups). Once it has reached boiling, then you can add in your fat, such as the coconut oil or butter. Be sure that it has dissolved completely! In order to bind in the tea, cannabis needs a fat to attach to, such as oil or butter.
Step 3: Infuse Tea
Next, you will want to add a gram of cannabis and let it come to a simmer. For the best result, you will want to use a premium flower in your recipe, which is something you can pick up at our greenleaf dispensary in Hanover, MI. Typically, premium flower has a robust flavor and scent, making it the perfect cannabis for tea.
Step 4: Simmer
Once your cannabis has been added, it is important to let the tea simmer for about fifteen minutes. Ensure that it is not boiling or overly hot, as this can compromise the properties of the plant and the overall quality of your tea. This simmer stage will also allow for the natural flavors of your strain to pull through into the water.
Step 5: Strain
Almost there! Now it is time to strain the tea using either a fine strainer or cheesecloth. This will ensure that none of the cannabis plant parts wind up in your actual tea. Pour out the hot water over a bowl or large cup.
Step 6: Add Tea and Enjoy!
All you need to do now is add in your favorite tea bag, let rest for 3–5 minutes, and then pull the bag out. Mix in your favorite add-ins and curl up by the fire with your homemade, cannabis-infused tea!
